The Caversham Harrier Club held their Ted Brown Memorial 1500m and Associated Races at Kaikorai Valley College last Saturday. Weather and underfoot conditions were good and competition was keen across the board. An interested onlooker during the Afternoon was Mark Howie a former Club Member and on hand to represent the family of Life Member Ted Brown .Mark later presented the Ted Brown Memorial Trophy to this year’s race winner Simon Walker. Simon Walker won the 2024 edition of the Ted Brown Memorial starting off a 2 min handicap and also recording fastest time of 5min 31 sec. Esther Sibbald was 2nd in 6.31 and Nicholas Heng 3rd in 7.18. In the other races Jayden Toomey was the winner of the McStay Maiden Memorial 1500 in 5.34 with Sara de la Harpe 2nd in 6.48 and Lorraine Stewart 3rd in 8.03. A field of 11 lined up in the junior race which provided an exciting contest. The winner was Amelia Reynolds who finished in 3.50 one second ahead of twin sister Quinn and Brother Zayden 3rd in 3.35. Fastest time went to Menzie Saker with 2.54. Sixteen keen Walkers lined up for their 1500m event with the eventual winner being Sylvia Wouters who started off a 1.30 Handicap and finished in a time of 12.25. Second was Sean Wong in 11.46 and third Shona McDonald in 14.08. Fastest time went to Lara Findlater with 10.31. Thanks to all Club Members who assisted with the various timing and recording duties to enable the races to proceed so smoothly.
